BOX-E RESTAURANT

BOX-E is a Bristol-based fine dining restaurant situated in a shipping container development in Wapping Wharf. ‘CARGO’ is a mini-village of shipping contain- ers on the Harbourside, just a stones throw away from the Floating Harbour and M-Shed. Cargo 1 was opened in October 2016 and Cargo 2 followed seven months later in May. The unique expansion has become one of the city’s biggest food hotspots, housing a number of first class restaurants with something to in- terest people of all tastes.

My design concept took inspiration from Ancient Greek amphitheatres and the unique experience of watching a play outdoors. I wanted to showcase the performative nature of Elliot's cooking and allow this to be the focal point of the restaurant, forming a strong connection between himself and the guests. The raised restaurant seating curves around the kitchen to place the chef at centre stage and allows the guests to have a strong connection with Elliot and the food in process, much like the connection between actors and the audience.
